Background and early bush life
Billy was born in 1980 in Kalulushi, Zambia, and has been visiting the Zambian bush since childhood. Many of his formative years were spent on resident hunts with family and friends, learning to track, observe game, and respect the animals and habitats long before he turned professional. That early exposure to wild places laid the foundation for his guiding career and his ongoing commitment to sustainable, ethical hunting.
Professional hunter career
After years of hunting and working in the field, Billy undertook a formal 3‑year apprenticeship from 2015 to 2017 and qualified as a fully licensed Professional Hunter in 2018. Rather than tying himself to a single concession, he chose to work as a freelance PH so that he can place clients in the most suitable Game Management Areas and ranches for the species and style of hunt they are seeking. Today he guides clients on all major forms of hunting available in Zambia, including big cats, buffalo, diverse plains game species, Lechwe and Sitatunga in swamp systems, and carefully selected game ranch hunts where appropriate.
Personality and life outside guiding
Billy is widely regarded as a people’s person: humorous, approachable, and endlessly patient both in camp and on the tracks. He is happily married with three children, and much of his time off is still spent in the bush with his family. Away from guiding, he enjoys bird shooting, fishing, and managing the family game farm, keeping him closely connected to wildlife management and rural life throughout the year.
Professional memberships and service
Billy is an active member of the Zambian and international hunting and outdoor community. He has served as a committee member of the Professional Hunters Association of Zambia (PHAZ), now known as the Professional Guides and Outfitters Association of Zambia (PGOAZ), and is currently a fully licensed member serving on its Trophy Records sub‑committee. He is also a member of Safari Club International and Dallas Safari Club, underscoring his commitment to global hunting standards and conservation initiatives.
Professional Awards and records
Billy’s commitment to ethical, fair‑chase hunting is reflected in a number of awards and record‑class trophies recognised by the Professional Guides and Outfitters Association of Zambia (formerly PHAZ/PGOAZ). Over the years he has guided clients to several top‑ranking Zambian trophies, including multiple current bow records.

- Leopard Award (2018).
- Small Animal Award for a Reedbuck (2019), currently listed as Zambia’s number one Reedbuck taken with a bow (as of 2024).
- Large Animal Award for a Sable (2019), currently listed as Zambia’s number one Sable taken with a bow (as of 2024).
- Zambia number one with a bow for a Crawshay’s Defassa Waterbuck (2019).

- Small Animal Award for a Sharpe’s Grysbok (2024).
- Game Ranch Award for a Blue Wildebeest (2024), also listed as a current number one trophy (as of 2024).
Sporting achievements
Beyond hunting, Billy is an accomplished multi‑discipline sportsman. As a member of the Zambia Sport Fishing Association, he has represented Zambia in several All Species International fishing tournaments.

He is also a member of the Zambia Polo Association and has represented Zambia at home and abroad on the polo field. In addition, he has represented Zambia in Sporting Clays against Zimbabwe. These pursuits reflect the same focus, discipline, and field awareness that he brings to his hunting safaris.
